Dear Leo Buscaglia Foundation Friends:

As new President of the Board of Directors, it is a privilege to report to you the grants made by the Leo Buscaglia Foundation for the 2003 year to seven worthwhile organizations that are fostering the spirit of giving within their communities. Each of these organizations provides exceptional service to people in great need. By using imagination, volunteer enthusiasm, and resourcefulness, they are addressing critical gaps in our communities and bringing knowledge, skills, and warmth to thousands of eager participants.

  • The National Conference for Community and Justice - Los Angeles, California
    Amount Awarded: $15,000

    The National Conference for Community and Justice

    To help support the Youth Leadership Program which brings together Los Angeles-area high school students of diverse races, religions, genders, and immigrant statuses for a year-long series of workshops and hands-on activities to address prevailing stereotypes and prejudices and create an environment to sustain long-term positive change in the youth, their peers, and the broader community.

  • Center for Family Services - Camden, New Jersey
    Amount Awarded: $15,000

    Center for Family Services

    To fund counseling services, transportation and job skill training for HomeBase, a program that provides transitional living facilities for teenagers between the ages of 16 - 18 who are too old for foster homes or youth facilities.

  • Child SHARE - Glendale, California
    Amount Awarded: $15,000

    Child SHARE

    To help support their "1000 Kids in 1000 Days" program which works with local churches and community volunteers to recruit and train foster and adoptive parents.

  • Girls, Inc. - Pasadena, California
    Amount Awarded: $15,000

    Girls, Inc.

    To help fund a series of Mother/Daughter Economic Workshops that focus on building sound money skills in parent and child.

  • Renaissance Enterprises - Portage, Michigan
    Amount Awarded: $10,000

    Renaissance Enterprises

    To expand its program over the next two years to reach seniors in rural and isolated areas by offering over 150 enrichment programs performed by its roster of artists, performers, and musicians.

  • Zoo Maui - Maui, Hawaii
    Amount Awarded: $9,000

    To help fund an educational museum which is being built by the Junior Zoo Crew - a mentoring program for children ages 11-17, that will focus on displays about the fragile Maui ecosystem.

  • Regional AIDS Interfaith Network (RAIN) - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
    Amount Awarded: $5,000

    Regional AIDS Interfaith Network (RAIN)

    To support HIV/AIDS education presentations in the community by volunteer teams which include people afflicted with HIV/AIDS who have benefited from the program's services.

The Board of Directors is pleased to have been able to support these fine organizations whose work fosters the spirit of giving to which our founder Leo Buscaglia dedicated his life. In his words and deeds, Leo sought to promote the best human qualities - loving and giving.
